Poem, By the Seaside
I was looking around for some classic poems or passages to put in our program (looooong Catholic ceremony, I'd like to give people something to read :)) and came across this beautiful poem. I think it is perfect since our church is across the street from the beach. We're not getting married on the sand (this is PERFECT for anyone who is) but we're close enough and our pics will be on the beach.
By the Seaside
As we stand beside the ocean tide,
may our love always be as constant and unchanging
as these never-ending waves that pour beneath our feet,
flowing endlessly from the depths of the sea;
your love came softly upon my heart,
just as the foam comes softly upon the sand,
and just as there will never be a morning
without the ocean's flow,
so there will never be a day
without my love for you.
I pledge myself to you this day.
Our love will be as unchanging
and dependable as the tide;
as these waters nourish the earth
and sustain life, may my constant devotion
nourish and sustain you
until the end of time.
I'm wondering if there are other uses I can come up with other than in the program. Thoughts?

One idea: If you were planning on having your guests shower you with flowers or confetti, or something like that, you can print the poem on pretty paper, roll it into a cone, put the flower petals inside the cone and put one on each seat. (That's my plan but I am using lyrics from songs.)
OOOOOH! I love that! That's why I love the blogosphere! Thanks!!!
It's a great poem! Who wrote it? What are your favors going to be? Have it framed and set out at your reception, maybe near your guestbook or escort cards...
What an awesome poem, and so water-side appropriate...and i think you are def. close enough to the beach for it to be def. appropriate :)
I love this!!! We are getting married on the water, but not the ocean....hmmmm...do we think I could still incorporate this somehow? This is perfect!
I am glad you guys like it and don't think its too cheese. SO much of this wedding stuff is borderline so I am always worried! LOL
I have scowered the Internet for this and have no idea who wrote it.
Because of that, CYD, I am thinking (let me know what you guys think) that you could just change the words a tad?
Like in the first line change it to "River side" or Lake or water side?
You may have to work on it a bit but I think since there is no known author maybe you could customize it!
Hi there. I am being married in a ceremony actually on the beach next year and also recently found this poem and was already planning on using it. I would like to give credit to the author, which I haven't been able to find? Do you know who it is?
Any help is appreciated.
Congrats on your wedding and thanks!
